Building upon the framework.

With the skeleton in place, I now etch within this framework to fill the image with an organic flow.  While certainly laborious, this task is likewise liberating.

Laying down the basics.

Atop the printed canvas I work in color by hand.  Here I have used both oil and 
water-based pastels, rubbing them in with cloth or fingertips.

Next I have etched the new image's basic framework, using a #11 Exacto blade.

This is how I begin:

A very simple montage is created from a photograph taken in the field.  That image is then printed on canvas.   This will become the background "texture".
